Get ready for a night you’ll never forget! The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is rolling out the red carpet for space legends during its 2013 U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame (AHOF) Induction Gala at Kennedy Space Center, and you’re invited! This year three astronauts will be inducted into the prestigious U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame: Curt Brown, Eileen Collins and Bonnie Dunbar. Brown flew on six missions and was commander of Discovery when Senator John Glenn returned to space on STS-95; Collins flew three missions beginning with Discovery as the first female space shuttle pilot on STS-63, this was also the first flight of a new joint Russian-American Space Program, and continued to make history on STS-93 as the first female space shuttle commander; and Dunbar, a veteran of five flights, served as a mission specialist on Atlantis for STS-71, the first space shuttle mission to dock with the Russian space station Mir.
The celebration begins Fri., April 19, 2013 with the Hall of Fame Induction Gala, benefiting ASF. This sumptuous black-tie (optional) affair will be held at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s (KSCVC) award-winning Apollo/Saturn V Center. More than 30 astronauts and space celebrities from Project Mercury through the Space Shuttle program will stride down the red carpet to join guests in celebrating the 12th group of Space Shuttle astronauts to be inducted into the Hall of Fame! You’ll mix, mingle, and raise your glass with this “who’s who” of space celebrities and industry leaders beneath the center’s beautifully restored Saturn V rocket!
The evening will continue as you enjoy delicious, savory dishes expertly prepared by gourmet chefs while discussing some of the most historic moments in the world with the men and women who made them happen. Toward the end of the evening, the excitement continues with the annual drawing of the winner of a brand new OMEGA watch. Raffle tickets are available now. One night of memories not enough? You’re in luck! Your gala ticket also includes entry into KSCVC’s official 2013 U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on the following day, April 20! Taking place in the heart of the Visitor Complex, this momentous occasion is a rare opportunity to witness history as the 2013 inductees take their place alongside legends such as John Glenn, Neil Armstrong and James Lovell.
